2011 . . . . means good ole' BLUEGRASS AND BBQ

On Saturday, September 17th, from 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday, September 18th, from 12:30 - 5:30 pm Tumbling Waters Society is hosting the Twenty-First Art in the Park Festival at Hurricane Shoals. Art in the Park provides a weekend at a beautiful and historic recreational facility with entertainment for the entire family.

** Our Festival kicks off Saturday morning at 8:30 am with the "Run and See Georgia" sanctioned Millrace, a 5K run, and a 1- mile Fun Run/Walk at 8:00 am. Preregistration is $15 and $40 per family or $18 & $45 on Race Day. Late registration & check in will be from 7:00 am to 8:15 am (7:00 am to 7:45 am for Walk) at Pavilion #4 on Maysville side of the Shoals. Race will start and end in Heritage Village.

** Craftsman from all over North Georgia will be demonstrating their work and have handmade items for sale. Paintings - art - pottery - handcrafted wood, metal and glass items - jewelry - knitted, quilted and crochet items and much more will be in our vendor booths throughout the Park. Many educational displays.

** Kids Zone on the Maysville side of the Shoals will have a Moonwalk, Obstacle Course and Giant Slide - face painting, ponies, puppets and a petting zoo. Jackson County Sheriff's Department will be fingerprinting kids for FREE. Even Splash, our official mascot, will be there to entertain the kids.

** A wide variety of edibles - including BBQ, hamburgers & hot dogs at the TWS Concession Stand, but also chicken on a stick, bratworst, fried pies, funnel cakes, home-made sweets & ice cream, boiled peanuts and more - will be for sale throughout the Park.

* * TWS will be cooking Richard's Critters - fried cornbread, tenderloin and sausage and serving bowls of good ole beans down below the Mill at the Pethal Cabin. Donations are requested.

** In the Heritage Village: Step back in time with tours of the Chapel and log cabins on Saturday and Sunday. The 18th, 43rd and 53rd Georgia Volunteer Battalions and Cobb's Legion (Civil War Re-enactors) will be camped in the Village both days with living history - demonstrations, drills and skirmishes. A Blacksmith will be at his forge and there will be basket weaving, quilting and soap making. James Mathis will display his Arrowhead and Artifacts Collection and an historical video of Clyde Freeman will be on view in the Freeman Cabin.

** Antique Autos/Cruise-in on display Saturday at the Covered Bridge parking lot.

** Adults and kids alike can play on the 18-hole Spirit of the River Miniature Golf Course, which details the history of the Park and the people who lived on the land surrounding the Shoals - putt by putt. You can marvel at the carved bears and Indians, play through the waterfall and along our little river, pass by replicas of the Chapel, Bridge and Cabins as you try to make a par 4 or 5. Play and learn the history of the Shoals - $3 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under.

** The old Grist Mill will be milling fresh -ground cornmeal for sale. Come watch the large waterwheel turn and learn how corn is milled.

And then there's music and entertainment all weekend . . . . .

** Hear the East Jackson County High School Jazz Band march into the Park for an 11:00 am performance in the Amphitheater.

** New this year: TWS and Blue Billy Grit are hosting the First Tony & Ann Ianuario Memorial Bluegrass Festival Saturday from 1-5:00 pm in the Amphitheater. In memory of Tony & Ann's contribution to the bluegrass genre, Blue Billy Grit, Poole Mountain, Buzzard Mountain Boys and 3 Bucks Shy will give a free concert. No Admission Required. A hat will be passed and all proceeds go to the Tumbling Waters Society and the School Reading Program that Mr. & Mrs. Ianuario so loved.

** All weekend - Dugar Strickland and Crystal River Bluegrass Gospel Band will be hosting a slate of musical entertainment - gospel & bluegrass - from the Pickin' Stage on the Jefferson side of the Shoals. Click on the Printable Schedule below. The second page will let you know when such groups as The Lamberts, The Crowes, Southern Travelers and more will be filling the Park with their wonderful gospel music.

** Hear a little pickin' and grinnin' Bluegrass Sunday afternoon on the Pickin' Porch at the Mill.

** AND THE GRAND FINALE - the hilarious Duck Dash. Watch as hundreds little plastic ducks race down the Shoals at 5:00 pm vying for the three grand prizes. Ducks can be sponsored for $5 or 5 ducks/$20 from Board members or at the Tumbling Waters Table.

***** REMEMBER - Admission and Parking are FREE at Hurricane Shoals Park*****

No pets allowed. All monies raised will be used exclusively for improvements at the Park and the development of the Heritage Village.
