Art in The Park 2008 Festival Activities

Join us for an exciting Festival......
On Saturday, September 20th , from 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday, September 21st , from 12:30 - 5:30 pm, the Tumbling Waters Society of Jackson County is hosting the Sixteenth Annual Art in the Park Festival at Hurricane Shoals Park (off GA 82 Spur between Jefferson and Maysville in Jackson County ). Art in the Park provides a weekend at a beautiful and historic recreational facility with entertainment for the entire family. A wide variety of edibles - including BBQ, hamburgers, bratworst, fried pies, funnel cakes and boiled peanuts and more - will be for sale throughout the Park.
Tours will be given in the Chapel and log cabins on Saturday and Sunday in the Heritage Village . The 44th GA Volunteer Infantry Re-enactors will have an encampment in the Village both days, including a field hospital . Joe Greco will sing in the Chapel at 1:00 pm on Sunday . A blacksmith will be at his forge and there will be soap making and quilting demonstrations. Crawford W. Long Museum will have children's games and activities both days in the Freeman Cabin. Also in the Freeman Cabin, James Mathis will display his Arrowhead Collection and a video on Clyde Freeman will be on view.
Craftman from all over North Georgia will be demonstrating their work and have hand -made items for sale. The Northeast Georgia Antique Auto Club will have a cruise-in of antique autos on the Jefferson side of the park on Saturday - display only. Children's art will be hung in the round pavilion. Funland is back with the Moonwalk, Obstacle Course and Giant Slide, ponies, puppets with games and activities for children. Splash , our official mascot, and Smokey the Bear will be there to entertain the kids. Fresh -ground corn meal will be for sale at the Grist Mill. In the Pethal Cabin by the Mill, Richard Massey will be cooking Richard's Critters - cornbread, tenderloin and sausage and serving bowls of good ole' beans. Stop and listen to a little pickin' and grinnin' Bluegrass on the Mill porch.
Dugar Strickland and Crystal River Bluegrass Gospel Band hosts a slate of musical entertainment from the new stage near the River. The Jackson County Comprehensive High School Band will perform in the Amphitheater Saturday at 10:00 am. Jackson County Sheriff's Department will be fingerprinting children, who can also tour the Fire Wise Trailer.
The "Run and See Georgia" sanctioned Millrace, a 5K run, and a 1- mile Fun Run/Walk will kick off Sunday at 2:00 pm. Contact Keith Ariail for more information: 706-335-5519. Sunday, the hilarious Duck Dash will provide a Grande Finale at 5:00 pm with grand prizes: ipod, digital camera and portable DVD for the first three little plastic ducks to cross the finish line. Ducks can be sponsored for $5 or 5 ducks/$20.
This year's Corporate Sponsors include Community Bank & Trust, BJC Medical Center, Regions Bank, Tanger Outlet Center, Jackson County Board of Commissioners, Talmo Contractors Inc., nBank, First Georgia Banking Company, MainStreet Newspapers, McDonald's Ace Hardware, Southeast Atlantic Beverage, WalMart and Jackson Electric Membership Corporation . Admission and parking are free at Hurricane Shoals Park. All moneys raised from this Festival will be used exclusively for improvements at the Park and the development of the Heritage Village.
Dedication of the Founders' Monument , a tribute to the four industrialists who donated the original 18 acres to the County, will be 4:00 pm Saturday .
